SC Moves for Employers

Are you an employer who would like to participate? Simply fill out the information request on the right side of this page and let us know you want to become a participating business or organization!  Our Schenectady County Public Health Services Team will work with your business or oganizations to get your employees involved.  We have compiled a number of resources for employers to utilize to promote this initiative to their employees which are included in our SCMoves Toolkit where you can find a sample email, promotional materials, and more.

Worksites in Schenectady County are important part of making this initiative successful. We want employers to encourage their employees to participate in this challenge and model healthy physical activity at all levels of the organization (CEOs, supervisors, middle managers, everyone!)

How You Can Encourage Physical Activity at Work

  • Create ”inviting” stairwells to encourage the use of stairs instead of elevators – CDC StairWELL
  • Offer flexible work hours – such as the option of longer lunch breaks allowing time for a walk or run
  • Encourage walking or standing meetings when appropriate
  • Allow stretch breaks during sitting meetings
  • Host worksite wellness challenges that promote physical activity
  • Provide incentives for participating in physical activity or weight management activities
  • Include family members in activities that promote physical activity, such as challenges
  • Enter local fitness activities, such as 5K fun runs, as a company team

Ideas for Physial Activity at Work

  • Choose an active form of transportation – walk or bike to work or meetings
  • Start lunchtime walk or jog clubs – giving employees the chance to get together and go on a planned route
  • Walk and talk or standing meetings – rather than sitting in a meeting room
  • Start an early morning or after work exercise group
  • Park further from your entrance to work and walk
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Walk to your coworkers desk instead of calling or emailing
  • Roll your shoulders and stretch your neck while sitting in front of the computer
  • Stand while you are on the phone
  • Take stretch breaks throughout the day and during meetings – Desk Stretches
  • Don’t forget, every little bit counts!
