Traffic Tickets (March 2020 - June 2020)

If you have been charged with a traffic infraction and were recently provided with a pre-trial conference notice from the Court, you may be eligible for a reduction of your charge.  Due to the growing concerns from the COVID-19 pandemic, the District Attorney’s Office will no longer be conducting these conferences in person.  Please reference the procedure below regarding how your ticket will now be handled. This process applies to traffic infractions only, not to vehicle and traffic law violations involving misdemeanors or felonies.

  1. If you were previously provided a pre-trial conference date by the court for a traffic ticket you received, the District Attorney’s Office will be provided with your ticket from the court.
  2. Once your ticket is received, an Assistant District Attorney will review your request, along with your driver’s abstract and send you an offer by mail.  The plea bargain form will be mailed to the address listed on your traffic ticket.
  3. If you decide to accept the offer, sign the document and send it to the appropriate presiding court. Once the document is received by the Court, you will be sent a notification from the Court outlining any fines, surcharges or other conditions related to your acceptance of the offer, including further instructions on how to pay any fines or surcharges. If you decide NOT to accept the offer, please indicate that on the document and send it back to the appropriate presiding court. You will subsequently receive additional information from the court regarding a required appearance.

Please be aware that due to the large number of pending tickets since the pandemic began, it may take up to six weeks to receive a response to your request for a reduction of your charge.  Any questions related to court appearances and/or requesting an adjournment should be directed to the local court where the ticket is pending.  Please note that the District Attorney’s Office will not negotiate traffic tickets over the phone, all currently pending tickets will be handled using the process described above.
