Gun Buyback Program

The Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office has successfully completed our eighth Gun Buy Back Program in Schenectady County. It was held on Saturday, March 30th, 2013 at Faith Deliverance Tabernacle located at 1028 Ostrander Place in the City of Schenectady from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program is supported by Schenectady County Sheriff’s Department’s Asset Forfeiture Fund. The initiative is being sponsored by the Schenectady County DA’s Office, Schenectady Police Department, Golub/Price Chopper, Stewarts Shops and various organizations throughout the County including several faith based organizations.
The program will be offered on a monthly basis at different locations throughout Schenectady County. This initiative will offer families a chance to benefit from the safe removal and destruction of unwanted or illegal weapons throughout the County. Officials will be offering gift cards to individuals turning in guns at the following rates:

· $200.00 - handguns
· $250.00 - assault weapons

During our eighth event we have collected 16 hand guns, 1 shotgun and 3 BB guns.
Sheriff Dominic Dagostino states, “We are very pleased with the success of our eighth Gun Buy Back initiative. We are hoping we can build upon this success to ultimately realize our goal of reducing gun violence in our community. Future locations of the events will be publicized in the near future.”

SCHENECTADY COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE GUN BUY BACK EVENT

The Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office announces a Gun Buy Back event in the County of Schenectady. The event is set to occur this Sunday, February 24, 2012 at “Mt. Pleasant Boys & Girls Club” located at 104 Webster Street in the City of Schenectady from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program is supported by Schenectady County Sheriff’s Department’s Asset Forfeiture Fund along with the Schenectady County DA’s Office, Schenectady Police Department, Golub/Price Chopper, Stewarts Shops and various organizations throughout the County including several faith based organizations.The program is being offered on a monthly basis at different locations throughout Schenectady County. This initiative will offer families a chance to benefit from the safe removal and destruction of unwanted or illegal weapons throughout the County. Officials will be offering gift cards to individuals turning in guns.
 



June 23, 2012
The Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office has successfully completed our first Gun Buyback Program in Schenectady County.

It was held on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Hamilton Hill Arts Center located at 409 Schenectady Street in the City of Schenectady from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program is supported by Schenectady County Sheriff’s Department’s Asset Forfeiture Fund. The initiative is being sponsored by the Schenectady County DA’s Office, Schenectady Police Department, Golub/Price Chopper, Stewarts Shops and various organizations throughout the County including several faith based organizations.

The program will be offered on a monthly basis at different locations throughout Schenectady County. This initiative will offer families a chance to benefit from the safe removal and destruction of unwanted or illegal weapons throughout the County. Officials will be offering gift cards to individuals turning in guns at the following rates:

· $25.00 - non-working guns (including B.B. & Pellet guns)
· $50.00 - anonymous surrender
· $100.00 - rifles or shotguns
· $200.00 - handguns
· $250.00 - assault weapons
During our first event we have collected 16 hand guns and 12 rifles and shotguns.

July 22, 2012
The Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office has successfully completed our second Gun Buy Back Program in Schenectady County.

It was held on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at the Consecration Temple Church located at 1312 State Street in the City of Schenectady from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The program is supported by Schenectady County Sheriff’s Department’s Asset Forfeiture Fund. The initiative is being sponsored by the Schenectady County DA’s Office, Schenectady Police Department, Golub/Price Chopper, Stewarts Shops and various organizations throughout the County including several faith based organizations. 

During our second event we collected 5 handguns, 9 rifles and shotguns and 3 non-working guns. Collectively, the Program collected 21 handguns, 21 rifles/ shotguns and 3 non-working guns, while paying out $5,175 in Price Chopper gift cards. Sheriff Dominic Dagostino states, “We are very pleased with the success of our first two Gun Buy Back initiatives. We are hoping to build upon these successes to ultimately realize our goal of reducing gun violence in our community. Future locations of the events will be publicized in the near future.”
