Schenectady County Legislature Announces County Fire Safety Improvement Grants

The Schenectady County Legislature created a $50,000 Schenectady County Fire Service Improvement Grant Fund in 2017.    This purpose of the funding is to enhance the fire protection capabilities of the fire departments outside the City of Schenectady. The Schenectady County Legislature recognizes the impact that the magnitude and number of unusual storms and natural disasters have had on the resources of our fire companies.

Any of the twenty-two fire companies or group of these fire companies outside the City of Schenectady that serve Schenectady County can submit an application under this grant program.

Grant Applications
The County is seeking proposals from fire companies serving Schenectady County communities.  Total funds available are $50,000.   Proposals should identify a specific need that cannot be met through existing resources; that meet a newly identified need based on emerging trends and/or that address needs of multiple companies. Grant applications that address improved fire safety and/or emergency response through training, equipment purchases, facility improvements and/or other fire prevention strategies will be accepted.   Proposals that facilitate shared services and benefit multiple fire companies are strongly encouraged.   No defined number of grants will be awarded; however the total funds to be distributed is up to $50,000.
