Schenectady County Announces Recipients of the 2017 County Initiative Arts and Tourism Grant Awards
The Schenectady County Legislature has announced the list of local community organizations that will receive grant awards through the 2017/2018 County Initiative Program (CIP). The program uses dedicated funds from the County’s Hotel/Motel Bed Tax to support projects that promote tourism, the performing, visual and literary arts, and historic preservation within Schenectady County. The County Legislature adopted a resolution awarding grants totaling $50,000 to 36 community organizations, both record amounts.
“Schenectady County is so lucky to have such a vibrant arts community and we’re proud to once again provide a record level of support to these worthy organizations, all at no cost to County taxpayers,” said Cathy Gatta, Chair of the Legislature's Committee on Tourism, Arts, and Special Events. “These events, attended by county residents and visitors from throughout the region, are part of what makes Schenectady County a great place to live, raise a family, and visit over and over again.”
The proposed projects were judged by a community review panel that graded applications on artistic merit, the feasibility of completing the proposed activity, and perceived public benefit. These projects comprise a mix of performing arts, visual arts, and historic preservation activities, and will serve communities throughout Schenectady County.
