Schenectady County Co-Sponsors Aging in a Changing Landscape Workshop  NEW 10/2014
Join us for a community forum on November 5th at 1pm-3pm at the JCC in Niskayuna, presented by Laurie Bacheldor, Manager of Schenectady County Senior and Long Term Care Services in Schenectady County and Ann DiSarro, Consultant for Senior Services and President of the NYS Coalition for The Aging, who will talk about trends in aging; what people should know about the types of services and environment most commonly needed as we age, the availability of such services in our community, and the challenges in obtaining needed services.  The event is co-sponsored by the League of Woman Voters and the Jewish Community Center of Schenectady.

Schenectady County Senior & Long Term Care to Celebrate World Food Day  NEW 9/2014
Schenectady County Department of Senior and Long Term Care will celebrate World Food Day in Schenectady County by co-hosting a fun-filled day of tips for healthy eating, healthy snacks, and important information for older adults and their caregivers on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 from 10am - 2pm at Proctors.

Schenectady County Recognizes Older Residents Accomplishments
Schenectady County is proud to recognize the accomplishments of our older residents through the Senior Citizen of the Year program.  At the June 10th meeting of the Schenectady County Legislature the winners and nominees were recognized for generously giving his or her time and energy to organizations or projects that have enhanced the lives of others.
Senior Citizen of the Year for 2014: Ms. Jonetta "Skip" Darcy
Senior Citizen with an Outstanding Contribution for 2014: Mr. Sandy Heitkamp
Lifetime Achievement Award for 2014: Ms. Elsie Harrington

Nominees included Mrs. Rosemary Pryne, Ms. Rose Peruzzi, Ms. Connie Remscheid, Ms. Joan G. Blando, and Mr. Manuel Salcrio.

In addition, Schenectady County resident Richard "Dick" Dickershaid was name the 2014 New York State Senior of the year for his efforts in creating a "field of dreams" for the Rotterdam Challengers Baseball League.  Mr. Lou Grasso was also recognized by NYS for his volunteer efforts.
